Recruit publishes new Japanese subtitled versions of seven Udacity courses, giving Japanese students access to Intro to Computer Science, Intro to Data Science, and Mobile Web Development, etc.

Recruit Holdings Co., Ltd. (Recruit, Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President, Representative Director & CEO: Masumi Minegishi) reports, as described below, based on a collaboration agreement with Udacity, Inc. (headquarters: Mountain View, California, U.S.; CEO: Sebastian Thrun; Udacity), on new Japanese subtitled versions of courses offered by Udacity, as well as online studies in Japanese.

1. Background and purpose

In 2013, Recruit entered into a collaboration agreement in the United States with Udacity, which offers online educational services that provide a gateway to a career in the technology sector. Based on the agreement, Recruit provides Japanese subtitled versions of online courses of Udacity, which had been available only in English. As a result, we provide many Japanese-speaking people with an opportunity to study cutting-edge technologies centering on computer science.

Aiming at further expanding courses available to students, Recruit has prepared new Japanese subtitled versions of seven courses offered by Udacity and added them to UDACITY on Edmaps.

2. New Japanese-subtitled courses

Students can now study the following seven courses with Japanese subtitles. As a result, there are now 13 courses with Japanese subtitles. Recruit plans to add Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning courses with Japanese subtitles.

Courses with Japanese subtitles roll out on October 3rd 2014:

  • Data Analysis with R
  • Intro to Computer Science
  • Intro to Data Science
  • Intro to Statistics
  • Mobile Web Development
  • Programming Foundations with Python
  • Software Debugging

3. UDACITY on Edmaps provides Udacity's entire 45-course catalog and syllabus in Japanese

Recruit has established a special UDACITY on Edmaps section on its online education information website Edmaps, and will deliver accessible information giving details of Udacity courses in Japanese.

  • Udacity's entire course catalog and syllabus (as of September 1, 2014) will be available in Japanese.
  • Introductory videos, subtitled in Japanese, will be available for all Udacity courses (as of September 1, 2014), and Recruit will support localization in Japanese.
  • Smartphone access
    UDACITY on Edmaps will also be accessible from mobile devices for easy access to all content anytime, anywhere.
