Recruit Holdings Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO, President, and Representative Director of the Board: Masumi Minegishi) is pleased to announce that as of August 1, 2020, the electricity used to power our offices at the Recruit Ginza 8 Building (Chuo-ku, Tokyo; commonly known as G8) has been replaced by electricity derived from renewable energy sources.

G8 currently consumes about 1.9 million kWh of electricity per year, which translates to about 880 tons of CO₂ emissions. That is equivalent to the amount of CO₂ emissions produced by 10,000 people flying round trips between Tokyo and Osaka.*1 By switching from a conventional fossil fuel-derived power plan to one*2 that uses 100% renewable energy from sources such as solar power, hydropower, and biomass, the building's electrical power usage will produce virtually zero direct emissions.

Conserving the environment is one of the five material matters of global sustainability we uphold as part of our group's basic principle to "contribute to a brighter world where all individuals can live life to the fullest." In addition, we consider "Goal 13: Climate Action" of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be a key foundation of our SDGs initiatives. Switching to electricity from renewable sources to power our building is one small step toward reducing Recruit Group's environmental impact. With "EVERY STEP HELPS" as our motto, we will continue to make steady efforts to help solve this global issue.

*1 According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism of Japan, air travel emits 96g of CO₂ per person per km. The flight distance between Tokyo and Osaka is approximately 400 km.

*2 A 100% renewable energy power plan which utilizes Energy Attribute Certificates such as Green Power Certificates.
