Anthony Moisant is Indeed’s Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Chief Security Officer (CSO), overseeing two functions: internal information systems and security. We sat down with him to discuss his aims as CIO and CSO, the experiences that shaped his thinking, and his outlook for the future.
The Challenge of Balancing AI Adoption and Trust as CIO and CSO
After serving as Senior Vice President and CIO at Glassdoor, Indeed’s sister company, Anthony became CIO and CSO of Indeed in October 2021. As CIO, he is responsible for optimizing the IT tools and technologies that Indeed employees use in their daily work, including leading the introduction of AI technologies to improve employee productivity. As CSO, he oversees the protection and maintenance of information entrusted to Indeed by job seekers, client companies, and employees.
Anthony describes his work as a “mission,” where his aim is: “To transform Indeed into an AI-first, but trust-led technology company. An organization that delivers opportunity faster and more equitably. ”He expands on this, saying:
“To achieve that, I’m working on two things. One is creating an AI-first company culture. The other is building the infrastructure to ensure our data can be properly leveraged by AI, while evolving our internal technology foundation to enable better speed, intelligence, and confidence.”
Increasing speed with AI while protecting the trust of job seekers and employers, how do you balance the two? For Anthony, this is exactly where the dual nature of his role comes into focus. “CIOs are expected to promote innovation and increase organizational speed. CSOs, on the other hand, have to manage risk, which can often slow things down. But I actually think speed is an important perspective for a CSO as well. The key is how we can move at ‘safe speed’: ensuring transparency, keeping the right guardrails in place, and maintaining a strong sense of care for our job seekers and employers. It’s a balance I think about every day.”
What guides these decisions is one of Indeed’s core values: Job Seeker First.
“Job seekers entrust us with very sensitive information. Often, this includes details they might not want their current employer to know, or conditions that directly affect their lives. Protecting that trust has to come first,” Anthony emphasizes.

Creating Fair Opportunities That Do Not Depend on “Luck” Through Technology
Anthony traces his curiosity for technology back to childhood.
“I taught myself to code as a kid. The first thing I created was a simple program where a ball bounced around the screen like ping-pong. Even that took me six months,” he recalls with a laugh. “Since then, I’ve always been excited by how technology can make things possible that once felt out of reach. It’s the art of the possible.”
He also reflects on his upbringing, saying he “grew up in a not-so-great situation,” experiencing a period of homelessness. A chance opportunity eventually led him to work in the U.S. Navy.
“In the Navy, I gained hands-on experience with some of the most advanced technologies in the world. I was lucky to have access to opportunities that only a few people ever get. One job can completely change the trajectory of a life. I experienced that myself.”
While his life changed because of that “luck,” the experience shaped a deeper belief that “opportunities should not depend on it.”
“This belief is the driving force behind my work at Indeed. By leveraging technology, we can reduce the randomness of the job search and make access to opportunities more fair and predictable.”
His time in the Navy continues to influence him today.
“The Navy taught me resilience, teamwork, and unwavering commitment to the mission. I’ve been fortunate to work for mission-driven companies, and that sense of purpose is still what gets me out of bed every morning.”
Shortening Time to Hire to Make a Positive Impact on Each Job Seeker’s Life
Anthony sees Recruit Group’s goal of reducing time to hire by half as an ambitious but essential challenge.
“From my own experience of desperately searching for a job, I know that work means much more than a paycheck. It’s about purpose, belonging, and safety. When you’re job hunting, every hour matters.”
That is why he believes every improvement at Indeed, from removing small frictions to enhancing the product and accelerating matching, has a direct impact on people’s lives.
“Maybe someone can pay their rent a little earlier, find a more stable environment, or feel a spark of hope. That's what really motivates me.”
Achieving this goal, he adds, also requires raising productivity within Indeed.
“Over the next few years, we aim to improve productivity in our core organizations by at least 50%. We have achieved every AI-related goal we’ve set so far, and we’re continuing to make steady progress.”
