Aspiration for Our Climate Action

Greenhouse Gas Emissions*2

Become carbon neutral by FY2030 with respect to GHG emissions from approximately 968K t-CO2 in FY 2019.

Achieving carbon neutrality across our entire value chain by FY2030*2

Become carbon neutral by FY2030 with respect to GHG emissions from approximately 986K t-CO2 in FY 2019.

We only have one planet, and everyone has a responsibility to protect the health and longevity of our home. Recruit Group is committed to protecting our environment by focusing on action against climate change, and setting a group-wide target for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to achieve carbon neutrality.

Progress in FY2025

Achieving Carbon Neutrality throughout Our Business Activities*2

We anticipate achieving our short-term goal as planned by reaching carbon neutrality throughout our business activities in FY2025, just as we did in the previous four fiscal years*2,3.

A figure showing GHG emission reduction targets. Based on SBTi targets, the goal of Scope 1+2, is to reduce by 15% by FY2024, and 46.2% by FY2030 compared to FY2019 level. For Scope 3, the goal is to reduce by 10% by FY2024 and 30% by FY2030 compared to FY2019 level.

Advancing GHG Emission Reduction Target Approved by SBTi

To achieve carbon neutrality across the entire value chain*2,3, the Company is advancing initiatives in line with its SBTi-approved GHG emissions reduction targets*4. In pursuit of these targets, the Company significantly exceeded the three-year reduction goal established for FY2022–FY2024. In FY2025, the Company expects Scope 1+2+3 emission reductions*2,3 to substantially exceed its target*5. To further reduce Scope 3 emissions – which account for more than 95%*6 of the Company’s GHG emissions – the Company continues working with partner companies to refine the measurement of GHG emissions. In Japan, for system development projects, the Company worked with partners to calculate GHG emissions on a project basis and obtained third-party assurance for those calculations*7.

Initiatives for Climate Change

We conduct climate actions by implementing both "mitigation" measures, which involve reducing GHG emissions and other means both within and beyond the value chain, and "adaptation" measures, which aim to reduce the negative effects of climate change and amplify positive impacts.

  • On this webpage, the number of years stated are reflective of the number of Recruit Holdings fiscal years, which begin on April 1 each year and end March 31 of the following year. All figures displayed here are approximate.
  • GHG emissions throughout our business activities are the sum of direct emissions from the use of fuels in owned or controlled sources and are referred to as Scope 1. Indirect emissions from the use of purchased electricity, heat, or steam in owned or controlled sources are referred to as Scope 2. GHG emissions from the value chain are referred to as Scope 3, and comprise indirect emissions other than Scopes 1+2. The entire value chain represents the sum of Scopes 1+2+3 GHG emissions. The Company aims to achieve carbon neutrality upon completion of the following steps: measurement of GHG emissions, obtaining an accredited third-party assurance on the amount of GHG emissions, and offsetting of those emissions.
  • All GHG emission figures are approximate numbers calculated based on the GHG Protocol. Additionally, independent third-party assurances have been obtained from SOCOTEC Certification Japan for GHG emissions.
  • The Company aims to reduce Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 46.2% and Scope 3 GHG emissions by 30%, both by FY2030 relative to a FY2019 baseline.
  • For Scope 2 (market-based) of the three-year reduction target, we consider the actual emissions before applying the Energy Attribute Certification procured by our company.
  • Based on the emissions of FY2024.
  • See the joint press release dated April 24, 2026, issued by NTT DATA Group Corporation, NTT DATA Corporation, and Recruit Co., Ltd., regarding the calculation of the carbon footprint of system engineering service contracts and third-party assurance.
  • CDP is a charity-controlled non-profit organization (NPO) established in 2000 and headquartered in the U.K. It owns one of the world’s largest environmental databases, working with over 700 financial institutions and investors with over 140 trillion US dollars in assets to disclose the environmental impact of companies.
  • Near-term targets to 1.5℃ is a short-term target defined by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and established in line with the science-based level of reduction in GHG emissions required to limit the global temperature rise to below 1.5℃ compared to the temperatures before the Industrial Revolution.
