Q2

What is the origin of the company's name?

A2

The company took on the corporate name Recruit Co., Ltd. in Apr. 1984.
Originally founded as Daigaku Shinbun Kokoku-sha in Mar. 1960. It was incorporated in Oct. 1960 under the name University Newspaper Advertising Company.
In Apr. 1963, three years after its founding, the company was renamed Japan Recruitment Center. This was the first time the company began using the word recruit.
In those days, "recruit" was an unfamiliar term to most Japanese. The president at that time chose to use this word given the goal to break free from and make changes to its traditional business content, and to expand its new business operations. This led to the change to its corporate name to Japan Recruit Center in Aug. 1963.
In Apr. 1984, the corporate name was changed to Recruit Co., Ltd. in line with plans for business development, including a shift from our paper media channel, which was mainly information magazines, to a new media business.
